Cook mode: a hands-free walkthrough of any recipe
A recipe card shows the whole dish at once. Cook mode is the opposite lens: one step at a time, in order, with the card lit up to show exactly where you are.
Steps in true order
Cook mode walks the card’s structure children-first — every sub-mixture finishes before the step that consumes it. Each screen shows the action in large type plus a “You’ll need” line listing the exact ingredients joining at that moment, with earlier work referenced by number: “what you made in step 3.” No re-scanning paragraphs with flour on your fingers.
Timers from the recipe’s own times
When a step carries a duration — bake 55 minutes, microwave 20–30 seconds, rise 1-1/2 hours — a one-tap timer appears, already set. Ranges start at the low end, because the low end is when a cook should start checking. The countdown keeps running if you move between steps, and a soft chime marks time.
The card stays your map
Behind the step panel, the current cell and its entire upstream lineage highlight on the card and scroll into view. You always see both the tree and the branch you’re standing on — which is the real answer to “wait, was the sugar already in?”
Small kitchen mercies
Your screen stays awake for the whole session, serving size locks so quantities can’t shift mid-recipe, and everything is sized for tapping with a knuckle. When the last step finishes, cook mode bows out and the full card returns.
